Summers are getting hotter, and resources are becoming scarcer. Everything in our everyday lives is more expensive – electricity, food and even drinking water. As such, saving water is increasingly important. We have four useful tips to help you save water without feeling like you’re sacrificing comfort. You’ll help the environment – and your pocketbook.

Have you ever estimated how many litres of water you use each day? Believe it or not, British households use about 142 litres* per person every day. That’s quite a lot! There’s a lot of room for improvement for those who wish to cut how much water they use.

1. Water-saving toilet flush

Flushing the toilet impacts how much water you use – and you shouldn’t underestimate it. Some vintage buildings still have freestanding toilets with flush valves and other outdated toilets that use between 7 and 14 litres per flush – which is a lot. But there are better options.

TOTO developed an innovative water-saving solution for all their toilets: the powerful TORNADO FLUSH, which uses just 4.5 litres per flush. Good news: TORNADO FLUSH is extremely effective despite the small amount of water.

The flush creates a strong whirlpool of water that circulates throughout the toilet bowl, cleaning every inch. Just one flush is enough to clean even very soiled bowls. Waste is washed away efficiently – without producing any spray or mist.

2. Turn off the water

It may sound simple, but the following tip also has a major impact on how much water you use: Don’t just let the water run the entire time you’re showering and brushing your teeth. Turn the water off while you’re shaving, washing your hair or scrubbing your face.

We get it. It feels great to stand under a warm, luxurious stream of water the entire time you’re in the shower. But if you think about how much water is going to waste, this is a great way to save an enormous amount of water by simply turning it off here and there. You could even spice up your water break with a relaxing shower playlist or a special fragrance.

3. Automatic faucets use even less water

If you’d like to save even more water, an automatic faucet from TOTO is an excellent option.

They use just two litres of water per minute thanks to the integrated ECO CAP technology – and also come equipped with SELFPOWER technology.

A microsensor– one of the smallest in the world – inside the spout of each faucet regulates the flow of water. It registers hand movements to deliver the exact amount of water needed for washing. At the same time, it recognises when to shut off the water: like when someone is cleaning the washbasin, for example.

TOTO automatic faucets with SELFPOWER have their own integrated hydropower plant. This technology allows the faucets to generate their own energy – requiring no additional electricity.

It’s so smart, right? Automatic faucets make it even easier to save water!

4. Saving water with WASHLET®

At first, you might not think that using water for intimate cleansing after using the toilet is far better for the environment than using toilet paper – especially when it comes to trying to conserve water.

In fact, you’ll use far fewer resources with TOTO WASHLET®. There’s no need to clear trees to make toilet paper and WASHLET® also uses far less water and electricity.

See how many resources you’ll use when using warm water to wash your intimate areas instead of wiping with toilet paper:

Wiping with toilet paper:

Average resource consumption per person and year: 33 kg wood, 60kWh electricity, up to 1,500 litres water, 975 grams chemical oxygen

Cleansing with WASHLET®:

Average resource consumption per person and year: No trees are cleared, 45.5 kWh electricity, 584 litres of water, no chemical oxygen

WASHLET® helps you conserve resources and save water as well as electricity. Another plus: Warm water cleansing is far more hygienic than toilet paper.
