The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world. Opened in 1989, the entrance area below the pyramid was originally designed to accommodate 4.5 million visitors per year. Just 25 years later, the number of visitors exceeded the 10 million mark. As a result, the museum decided to do major renovations that would have the lowest possible impact on the building architecture.
