Environmental issues play a role in shaping our corporate strategy. In particular, we address issues related to the water consumption of our products and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our business activities. We take these aspects into account as we further develop our strategic approaches.
Our environmental activities are guided, among other things, by selected UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WATER-SAVING
Protect Our Limited Water Resources and Connect With the Future
Water is a limited resource. When developing our products, we therefore also take water consumption during use into account. Our goal is to reduce the water consumption of our products as much as is technically and functionally feasible. Specific consumption figures depend on the individual product and the conditions of use.

Water-Saving Performance of Toilets
We have been working to reduce the amount of water needed to flush toilets and to expel and transport waste while ensuring toilets remain pleasant to use. In the current NEOREST Series, we created a toilet that uses only 3.8L of water per flush. In addition, we also take water consumption into account when further developing our showers and other water fixtures.

Carbon Neutrality Initiatives
The TOTO Group is working to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions based on science based climate targets. Since the use phase of our products accounts for over 90% of the CO₂ emissions associated with their life cycle, we are focusing in particular on reducing emissions during this phase. In addition, we are implementing Group-wide measures to reduce emissions from our business activities, including through the increased use of renewable energy. Our 2030 emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Joined the global initiative RE100 in April 2021
In March 2024, our 1.5°C target was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
REGIONAL CONTRIBUTION
Support for local water initiatives
Not only business activities but also civil society initiatives play an important role in the responsible use of water resources. To this end, we have established the TOTO Water Environment Fund, which supports projects dedicated to protecting water bodies and improving water supply in local communities. Through this fund, we specifically support 352 projects in various countries, that implement, for example, that we support community-based environmental initiatives related to water. We provide further details on the supported projects and their impact in our sustainability report or upon request.
