Renowned design award - TOTO trade fair booth receives "Red dot design award"

A Japanese garden captivated visitors at the ISH 2011: The TOTO trade fair booth impressed crowds with its refreshing simplicity, green trees, untreated wood – as well as the company’s “Clean & Green Technology”. The Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen recently honoured the exhibition concept with the „red dot design award“ in the category of „communication design“. The „red dot“ is an internationally recognised seal of quality for outstanding design. „We are delighted to have received this award and would like to thank everyone involved in this project,“ said David Marquardt, Managing Director of MACH, the renowned Swiss architecture firm responsible for the 1,300-square metre installation.    
The open booth concept invited visitors to relax and experience TOTO‘s products and technologies. The huge space was divided into specific themes in individual pavilions. Visitors had the opportunity to take a journey through the entire world of TOTO. Starting with the luxurious NEOREST LE and SE bathroom collections and the new Modular Home (MH) collection, which offers a wide range of possibilities for creating an urban feel in the bath, people could move on to the technology zones, which explained details of TOTO’s “Clean & Green Technology” – including the especially effective “Tornado Flush”, self-powering faucets and water-saving technologies. However, the most impressive aspect was the emotional atmosphere created by this installation, featuring the careful use of untreated wood as the dominant material combined with other interesting materials. „On the one hand, we want the public to get to know the Japanese origins of the company. At the same time, we want to clearly demonstrate that we manufacture European products for the European market. This is how the idea was born to present the individual European bathroom suites in the ambiance of a Japanese garden. The booth was designed to highlight the design and quality of our exclusive products – and it was a great success, as our many visitors confirmed,” reports Koji Nakano, President of TOTO Europe GmbH. This year, 608 designs in 24 categories received the “red dot design award”. The jury evaluated a total of 6,468 submissions from 40 countries. The official award ceremony will be held on 7 October in Berlin.  
Awards:
The Luminist washbasin from the Neorest/LE series received the red dot award in 2009 and the bathtub in 2010. Another Luminist vessel, the Crystal Bowl”, received the if product design award in 2009.
