TOTO Celebrates London´s Clerkenwell Design week

with innovatio, sustainability and well-being exhibition and events
As an official participant in the annual Clerkenwell Design Week, Japanese bathroom manufacturer TOTO is hosting a vibrant exhibition that celebrates the marriage of beautiful design, sustainable technologies and well-being. ‘Design for a Sustainable Future’ is curated by environmental design website Sustinendi (<link http: www.sustindendi.com>www.sustindendi.com), and brings to TOTO’s concept store in the heart of London’s design district exciting products that exemplify new ways of thinking in terms of materials, community, energy and life-style.

In tune with the festive mood of CDW (<link http: www.clerkenwelldesignweek.com>www.clerkenwelldesignweek.com), TOTO is also making available its luxurious washroom facilities to CDW visitors. During opening hours (9.30am to 6pm), festival-goers can experience the unique Japanese-style, interactive Washlet toilets. Under the banner ‘Spend £1 to Spend a Penny’, all proceeds go to Wherever The Need, a charity that provides essential sanitary facilities in Sierra Leone, Kenya and India (<link http: www.wherevertheneed.org>www.wherevertheneed.org).

With Cream Teas at 4pm, TOTO and Sustinendi will be on hand for demonstrations and tours. Exhibits in Design for a Sustainable Future include: •  Kun-tiqi -surf boards hand crafted from renewable balsa wood by communities in South America and finished in Northern Spain.
•  Quantz – a high density, high tech, high performance concrete material which reduces environmental impact and costs. Intricate designs by Doreen Westphal demonstrate the material’s versatility for architecture and design. (image above)
•  A Drop of Water – a drain-pipe-fixed water butt, shaped like a droplet with an integrated watering can by Dutch designer Bas van der Veer
•  Virtual Water -an iPhone app, website and poster designed by Timm Kekeritz which visualises and helps you manage your daily water consumption.
•  Hero Eco -e-bikes and e-scooters play their part as individuals and cities reconsider their mobility plans and energy consumption.
•  Tea Together – outstanding hand-made organic jams and marmalades which supply many of the world’s top hotels.
•  Right as Rain – no dyes or chemicals are used for the designs on these silk T-Shirts from this Italian fashion start-up. They are, quite literally, created organically by being buried in the earth.
•  'Transmutation Chandelier' – Thierry Jeannot’s chandeliers are created from PET bottles that resemble crystal and are reminiscent of Baroque or glass-blown pieces from Murano. The polystyrene lights appear like ivory or alabaster. Thierry Jeannot appears courtesy of the Marion Friedmann Gallery.
•  Morethanshelters -a mobile home for use in emergencies and refugee camps. It combines high tech solutions with traditional and local technologies and materials.
•  Wherever The Need -a charity that supports sanitation projects in Sierra Leone, Kenya and India.
