Sou Fujimoto: Futures of the future

Presenting a satellite exhibition by renowned Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. In collaboration with Japan House London and TOTO GALLERY·MA in Tokyo and London Festival of Architecture.
OTO hosts an exhibition entitled FUTURES OF THE FUTURE by the influential Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. This exhibition will run alongside the inaugural exhibition at Japan House in London’s Kensington High Street and part of London Festival of Architecture. Both exhibitions will be seen for the first time in the UK. Architecture is Everywhere
Architecture, I think, is something that is first found and then made. Just as our ancestors found their habitat in caves and woods, nowadays we discover ours among the many things we encounter in this immense built jungle. And it is discovery like this that leads us to conceiving new architecture. In this exhibition, I am presenting this concept of what I call ‘Found Architecture’. By placing small-scale human figures next to ordinary objects found in everyday life, or in contexts that first seem coincidental, if not fortuitous, we can soon start to read these objects as architectural spaces. The discrepancy in scale in these pairings is serendipitous, and what lies beyond them is a prelude to new architecture. Within this concept there should be the underlying dialogue of discovery by chance vs. creation with intent. Architecture could come into being from anywhere. I believe fostering that architecture-to-be into real architecture itself is also architecture. Onward architecture continues. Sou Fujimoto SOU FUJIMOTO: FUTURES OF THE FUTURE
